Installing and Using the Universal TUTD Harness (50141) for GM 6L80E

Overview

  • This installation guide applies to harness part number 50141 for use with a GM 6L80E or GM 6L90E transmission.

  • The transmission needs to have been programmed to support tap-up / tap-down shifting per these instructions: Enabling Tap-up / Tap-down on the GM 6L80E

  • The harness is designed to use two normally open pushbutton type switches.

  • The same harness can be used to a Gen 2 Twist Machine Paddle Shifter to a GM 6L80E

  • For the Gen 3 Twist Machine Paddle Shifter, use harness part number 50127.

Instructions

Connect to the Transmission

The kit comes with a violet wire with a terminal at one end. This wire needs to be populated in the GM transmission connector, pin 7. The other end of the wire can be terminated with the supplied WeatherPack connector after you have cut it to length.

  • Find the violet wire with the existing terminal on the end. This wire will be installed into pin 7 of the existing GM transmission connector.

  • Remove the main harness connector from the GM transmission.

  • Remove the cavity plug from the connector for pin 7.

  • Unlock the terminal position assurance (TPA) latch on the lower section of the connector.

  • Insert the terminal and seal into the connector until it clicks into place.

  • Lock the terminal position assurance latch.

  • Reinstall the connector into the transmission.

  • Route the violet wire safety to the location of the rest of the harness, through the firewall if necessary.

  • Using the provided terminals and seals, crimp the WeatherPack connector onto the end of the violet wire.

Connect the Switches or Paddle Shifter

Plan to install the harness near your switches or paddle shifter receiver. You will need a source of fused +12V switched power.

The table below assumes your pushbutton switches have a pair of terminals, A and B, which make a circuit when the button is pressed. If you are connecting to the relays on a paddle shifter receiver, use the common and normally open contacts in place of the A and B terminals.
